Level 1 Avalanche Course, Mount Bohemia, MI

Please Note: the "Book For One Day" option will reserve your space for January 31, February 1, 2 & 3.

  • Tuesday, January 31: 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Wednesday, February 1: 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Thursday, February 2: 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Friday, February 3: 8:00am-5:00pm

**One of the above days will be a free ski day at Mount Bohemia! Day TBD based on conditions.**

Students are encouraged to bring their own beacon, shovel and probe to ensure proper training with personal rescue equipment.

Students must be 16 years of age, or older.

For 2017 we are excited to be returning to Mt. Bohemia, and the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan!  This course will be based at Mt. Bohemia and will have a mix of classroom and field work based out of the base of Mt. Bohemia.  Students should come prepared with touring equipment (skis/skins, splitboard/skins) or snowshoes as we will be accessing terrain under our own power, as well as via chairlift.  NO TOURING RENTALS WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM WHITE PINE TOURING.  Information on lodging and Mt Bohemia can be found at the following link:

Day 1

  • Classroom and Field Work at Mt. Bohemia 

Day 2

  • Classroom and Field Work at Mt. Bohemia

Day 3

  • Touring on Mt. Bohemia

Day 4

  • Free Ski Day at Mount Bohemia!

7:1 Max Student to Instructor Ratio.

Includes:

  • AIARE Field Book
  • AIARE 1 Student Manual
  • Registration with AIARE
  • All Fees, Insurance, Etc.
  • Lift Tickets as Needed
  • Lodging (Hostel Style, Bed/Bunk in Shared Room)
  • Breakfast and Dinner Daily
  • 1 Free Ski Day TBD at Mount Bohemia

AIARE 1 Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Plan and prepare for travel in avalanche terrain
  • Recognize avalanche terrain
  • Describe a basic framework for making decisions in avalanche terrain
  • Learn and apply effective companion rescue
